Avalon

avalon nj

Avalon, NJ is located in Cape May County and is a part of the Seven Mile Island. Avalon juts out into the Atlantic Ocean one mile farther than all of the other barrier islands, hence the town’s motto “Cooler by a Mile.” The town is also one mile longer than its neighbor Stone Harbor, and was originally known as “Seven Mile Beach”. Avalon was occupied by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans before being purchased in 1722 by the Leaming family for 79 Pounds and was subsequently sold to Seven Mile Beach Company in 1887. The Island was quickly developed into a resort town just six years later. Today, Avalon is known for being one of the most affluent shore towns in New Jersey with beautiful and clean beaches, quiet and friendly residential neighborhoods, and for making memories that last a lifetime.
